Gig reports and editorial comments for the week Dec 28- Jan 4, 2004

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey, hey, hey-
I hope you are all having a good holiday season. I have been enjoying having all 5 of my sons (with wives and girlfriends) visiting and staying with us. It doesn’t replace the ‘patter of little feet’, but it is a pretty good second.
Also, I hope you will come out and see us at the Water Canyon on New Years Eve, and/or New Years Day (evening). There’s a lot of other cool stuff goin’ on on New Years, also (see ‘gigs’ and ‘announcements’).
Also, if anyone knows through what avenues donations can be directed to help in the incredible cataclysm on the Indian Ocean, please let us know. I am awestruck by it.
The ‘war prayer’ by America’s great literary genius, Mark Twain, is going around the internet for the 2nd time in as many years, and is more appropriate now that ever. I have attached it with a speech written by Bill Moyers in acceptance of an award recently.
Dat’s all for now…
JAMSannouncements
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If you'd like to begin your New Year with some good fun and music, Water Canyon may be the place for you to hang out this weekend.

New Years Eve will feature the original music of Abandon Ship, a trio of locals (Gabriel, Damian, and Nathen Lester) that went to Oregon to make good (and a pair of well received CDs). and who will be gracing the Water Canyon stage Friday evening to help us all ring in 2005.

Then on Saturday, the evening of New Years Day, please join Eric Neil--aka Steve Lester-- (or Steve Lester--aka Eric Neil, if you prefer), Bob Garcia, and me, along with several expected guests for an evening of truly "good time" music and fun. Musicians, you may want to bring your axe and join in a tune or two, as well. And, who knows? We may even find out who peed on Mama's coat, after all.

There is no cover or admission for either evening, and I can easily predict that you will have an enjoyable time welcoming in the New Year in such a friendly atmosphere. So come join us if you can. We'll be bringin' in '05 with a smile.

‘Abandon Ship’ trio to play at the Water Canyon Coffee Co. In Yucca Valley, Friday Dec 31st, 8-12PM

New Years Eve Party with no cover charge

Abandon Ship is a melodic rock & roll trio. They will be playing their original songs with catchy melodies, three part harmonies and insightful lyrics. They have released a second album ‘Happy Endings’ since their last performance in the high desert and have a third “in the works,” so expect to hear some exciting new material!

Brothers Damian, Gabriel and Nathen Lester grew up and learned to play in Joshua Tree before setting out on their travels, which eventually led them to form Abandon Ship in Eugene, OR. They play bass, guitar, and drums, respectively. All three write songs, sing leads and harmonies.

START YOUR NEW YEAR OFF WITH THE JT SHAKERS AND FRIENDS AT WATER CANYON IN YUCCA VALLEY THE EVENING OF NEW YEARS DAY SATURDAY, JANUARY 1, 2005, 8:00 – 10:00 PM

Take a bit of folk; add some rock, pop, and country; flavor with bluegrass, and blues; mix in an oldie or two along with some fresh and highly original tunes; combine with a generous helping of social consciousness, and spice with a healthy dash of humor and satire. Then, like James Bond says, “shake, don’t stir,” and you have the recipe for an enjoyable evening of musical entertainment with The JT Shakers to kick off 2005 with a smile and a song.

Singers, guitarists, and songwriters Eric Neil (aka. Steve Lester) and Bob Garcia, along with percussionist Sam Sloneker, are bringing their particular brand of musical merriment to Yucca Valley’s Water Canyon Coffee Company on Saturday, January 1st from 8:00 – 10:00 PM. Some exciting surprise guests will also be joining in the festivities. No cover—lots of fun!

The Water Canyon Coffee Co. is located at 55844 Twentynine Palms Highway in Yucca Valley—on the NW corner at the intersection of Twentynine Palms Highway (Hwy. 62) and Pioneertown Road. For information call! (760) 365-7771.

Hello, friends of the desert,

The Morongo Basin Conservation Association will have several openings on their Board of Directors at the end of this year. We are looking for people who would like to help make a difference in the future quality of life in the Morongo Basin by serving on the Board.

The Board meets 10 times a year (no meetings in July-August). The term is three years.

This is a time of change for MBCA, and by serving on the Board now you can help shape the organization and determine the environmental priorities for our communities and wildlands locally. We are especially looking to include on the Board more members from the West Basin areas (Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley, Morongo Valley, Landers, etc.).

It you think you might be interested, or would like to recommend someone, please contact us here by replying to this message.

Thank you!

For the environment,

Christine Carraher
