Crime: Wave of gun violence hits Moreno Valley, 2 dead, 2 injured

Moreno Valley, California - On October 31, 2008 at about 930pm, officers from the Moreno Valley Police Department responded to the 26000 block of Iris Ave. regarding a 911 call of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers located 2 males suffering from gunshot wounds. Both males were transported to a local hospital where they were treated for their injuries.
One of the males, 19 year-old Ezekiel Triplett, died from his injuries. Detectives from the Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit are conducting the investigation.
On Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at about 3:54 pm, the Moreno Valley Police Department received a call of shots fired at 24121 Sunnymead Blvd. The officers received information that a suspect, a black male adult, wearing a long sleeve shirt and shorts, was last seen driving away in a white Monte Carlo westbound on Sunnymead towards Heacock Street.
A Moreno Valley Police officer observed a vehicle matching the description driving southbound on Heacock Street towards Webster Avenue. The officer initiated his overhead lights and the suspect car pulled over on Webster. A suspect matching the description jumped out of the car and ran southbound.
The Moreno Valley Police Department set up a perimeter. Officers located the suspect at 12730 Heacock Street near Fir Avenue. He was taken into custody without incident.
At about 4:00 pm, the Moreno Valley Police Department received information that a victim of gunshot wounds had been taken to the Moreno Valley Regional Medical Center. The victim, Tyrek Leon Lara, died as a result of his injuries.
Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Central Homicide Unit and the Moreno Valley Police Department’s detectives arrived and assumed the investigation.
On Wednesday, November 05, 2008 at about 9:16 p.m., officers from the Moreno Valley Police Department responded to an apartment complex at the 12000 block of Lamos Place, in the city of Moreno Valley, reference an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call.
Officers arrived within minutes and located a victim outside one of the apartments. The victim, a male, 16 years of age, had been shot. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was admitted. The victim is expected to recover from his injuries.
The identity of the victim will not be release due to his age.
