Temecula: Local market and gas station cited in teenage alcohol sales sting

Temecula, California - The Temecula Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team conducted a Minor Decoy Sting operation throughout the City of Temecula on Friday, November 07, 2008. The purpose of this sting was to deter store clerks from selling alcohol to minors. Providing a minor with alcohol is a misdemeanor. This operation was funded by a grant from the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

The officers and teenage decoys went to 16 locations to conduct compliance checks and two locations sold alcohol to the decoy. The minor decoy was able to purchase alcohol from the following locations:

CVS Pharmacy,
29610 Rancho California Rd

Shell Gas Station,
44260 Redhawk Parkway

Those employees who sold the alcohol to the minor face fines and or community service. In addition the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control will take administrative action against the business’s liquor license that may include a fine, a suspension of the liquor license or the permanent revocation of the license.

We would like to thank the citizens who did not sell alcohol to the minors. Their continued support of the well being of the youth of our city is appreciated. The Temecula Police Department’s efforts to deter the unlawful sales of alcohol products will continue and more decoy programs will be conducted on a regular basis as part of this grant.

If citizens observe juveniles purchasing alcohol, they are encouraged to call the Temecula Police Department’s non-emergency number, 696-HELP and report the incident.


Murrieta Crime: Possession and Passing of Fictitious Bills leads to recent Murrieta Arrests

Murrieta, California - On 11/5/2008 at 1:50 am, Officers from the Murrieta Police Department responded to the 28000 block of Calle daniel-fitzgerald.jpgDel Lago regarding a call of domestic violence in progress. The domestic violence altercation at the location was deemed to be non criminal and no charges will be filed.

However, during the preliminary investigation, officers found items inside the residence related to the making of fictitious currency. Specifically, fictitious $100 bills were found, as well as the instruments used to make the bills. The resident, Daniel Fitzgerald (29 years old), was arrested and transported to the Murrieta Police Department for questioning.

Investigation revealed several businesses in Murrieta, over the course of the last two weeks, have been victimized by the passing of these fictitious $100 bills. Those businesses have been contacted and police reports have been taken. Any businesses in Murrieta that have seen this activity and have not reported it to the Police Department are encouraged to call Murrieta P.D. at 696-3615. Fitzgerald is currently in custody at the Southwest Jail.


In what may or may not be a related indecent, on 11-08-08, at 10:35 pm, officers were dispatched to Chili’s Restaurant located at 41070 California Oaks Road in reference to a male adult who had just paid for his takeout order with a counterfeit $100 bill. When officers arrived, the suspect fled westbound on foot, jumped a fence and ran across the 15 freeway. Responding officers quickly set up a perimeter and located the suspect hiding in bushes adjacent to an industrial building. Officers additionally located a counterfeit $100 bill concealed in a drain basin next to where they found the suspect.

The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Andrew Van Dam. A records check of Van Dam revealed he was currently on probation for Domestic Violence related charges.

Witnesses from Chili’s Restaurant positively identified Van Dam as the suspect who had used the counterfeit $100 bill to pay for his takeout order. Van Dam was placed under arrest and booked for 459 PC (Burglary), 476 PC (Passing a Fictitious Bill), and 1203.2 PC (Violation of Probation) at the Southwest Detention Center.

Murrieta Crime: Local woman wrecks car, hospitalized due to intoxication and arrested for DUI

Murrieta, California - On 11-08-08, at about 9pm local time, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Chaco Canyon Road in western Murrieta, reference a vehicle that had collided into a brick wall. Officers arrived on scene and noticed a small sedan with major collision damage against the block wall just east of the intersection.

aramissanchez.jpgA female adult, who was later identified as 20-year-old Aramis Sanchez, was found trapped in the driver’s seat and conscious. Officers at the scene reported smelling a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the interior of the vehicle and noticed Sanchez displayed signs and symptoms consistent with being under the influence of alcohol.

Murrieta Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to extricate Sanchez from the vehicle. Sanchez was transported to Inland Valley Hospital for treatment of apparent superficial injuries. Sanchez was ultimately admitted into the hospital due to her level of intoxication. DUI related charges will be filed against Sanchez through the Riverside District Attorney’s Office.

According to Sanchez’ myspace page last updated on 11-7-08, she was “GETTiN MAH DRiNK ON!!” and her posted mood was “GETTiN TiPSY!! Mood Image“.

Murrieta Crime: Elderly Woman has purse snatched, suspects arrested

Murrieta, California - On November 5th, at about noon local time, a 79 year old female victim had her purse stolen from her arm. A male subject came up behind the woman and grabbed her purse, pulling it from her arm. The suspect quickly ran away to a waiting vehicle. An alert citizen witnessed the theft and followed the suspect. The witness was able to provide the police with a description of the vehicle. The vehicle was almost immediately located by Officer Harwick and detained on a traffic stop.

Two suspects were located in the vehicle. They were identified as Eduardo Ortega (22 years old) and Bryant Bonilla (18 years old.) They were in possession of the woman’s purse and positively identified by witnesses. All of the property was returned to the victim. Both suspects were booked at the Southwest Detention Center on robbery charges.
