Temecula: Sheriff’s Dept Halts off road fun near Temecula with ROVE-ing patrols

Details On 10/10/08, members of the full-time Riverside County Off-Highway Vehicle Enforcement Team (R.O.V.E.) were utilized at the request of Cabazon Station Patrol Personnel in their efforts to locate a reported critical missing adult. On 10/11/08, R.O.V.E. Deputies were deployed in the unincorporated areas of Temecula known as “Wine Country”; and Exa Ely and Rope Road. The primary goal was to reduce illegal off-roading, excessive noise activity, and increase off-highway vehicle (O.H.V.) safety and education through citizen contacts, warnings, and citations. Deputies issued two off-road warnings and cited one offender for the applicable off-highway vehicle enforcement section (10.12.010 R.C.O.).


During the course of the day, several residents were contacted and their needs addressed. R.O.V.E. Deputies also assisted Bureau of Land Management Rangers with hunter safety checks on the opening day of deer season in the area.

On the following day (10/12/08), R.O.V.E. Deputies were deployed in the unincorporated area of Indio known as “Iron Door”. R.O.V.E. augmented and worked in conjunction with the Coachella Valley Association of Governments (C.V.A.G.) , a task force of local and Federal agencies dedicated to off-highway vehicle enforcement.

R.O.V.E. deputies saturated the areas and contacted several off-road enthusiast. Education materials were dispersed to numerous subjects. These materials serve to educate the public as to safe riding practices and legal venues within our county. Deputies issued thirty one off-road warnings and cited twenty six offenders for the applicable off-highway vehicle enforcement section (10.12.010 R.C.O.).

The full time Riverside County Off-Highway Vehicle Enforcement Team (R.O.V.E.) is committed to ensuring public safety and quality of life throughout the county. To this end, R.O.V.E. will continue these types of operations throughout the year within the unincorporated areas known as “Wine Country” and “Iron Door” and at various other locations within Riverside County. R.O.V.E. will also continue to assist other Agencies/Stations at their request for Search & Rescue Operations.
