Riverside County: Be safe this 4th of July, don’t use illegal fireworks and start a forest fire
July 4, 2008 by Bill Gould, Publisher.
Riverside County, California - The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is urging residents NOT to use illegal fireworks at home, while camping or enjoying other outdoor activities. Beyond the fact that fireworks are illegal everywhere in Riverside County (except in Cathedral City, Indio, Blythe and Coachella. However, these fireworks must not be transported or possessed outside of the cities where they were purchased.); it is very hot and very dry this weekend and fireworks pose a huge fire risk.
There are many wonderful professional fireworks displays all of Southern California that are safe and enjoyable for your entire family. Lake Elsinore has a wonderful display after the Storm Baseball game at Diamond Stadium off of the 15 freeway and Diamond Drive. I will be with my family in Temecula watching the fireworks explode over the Ronald Regan Sports Park on Rancho Vista Road, near Temecula High School.
If you have neighbors who are using illegal fireworks and you feel it is a safety or fire risk, the Sheriff’s Department has posted a form online that you can fill out. This form will help you avoid the hassle of sitting on hold for a 911 operator, and will get the authorities to your issue ASAP. The link will only be valid until 11:59pm tonight, July 4 2008.
Visit the online fireworks reporting form here!
From the Sheriffs Dept:

WARNING: Mountain Lion sighted in Sky Valley
July 4, 2008 by Bill Gould, Publisher.
Sky Valley, California - On 7-4-08, about 12:05 AM, Deputies received a call of a Mountain Lion walking into one of the trailer parks off of Corkhill and Dillon Rd, in the unincorporated area of Sky Valley. A cable worker spotted the Mountain Lion north of Dillon Rd and followed the lion in his van as the Lion walked south towards the mobile home park.
Deputies later located numerous paw impressions consistent with a mountain lion outside of one of the mobile home parks. Deputies searched the area, but were unable to locate the animal. The cable worker described the lion as being about three feet tall from the ground to the top of his/her back, long tail, triangle shaped ears, tan in color and extremely thin.
Individuals living in this area are being asked to not leave children or small animals unattended. If anyone should spot this lion, call 9-1-1 or contact Department of Fish and Game. Do not attempt to lure or capture this animal for any reason.
