TIME TO PICK UP THE PIECES TO ALL THAT JAZZ

TEMECULA WINE & MUSIC FESTIVAL TO BENEFIT MILITARY FAMILIES

Temecula, CA – Though the new music scene has been decimated by the ‘powers that be’, some avenues of unbridled creativity remain, to be enjoyed with wine as expressed in a conversation with Michael Paulo earlier this week. On May 3rd & May 4th (Sat and Sun) out at the Vail Lake Resort, 38000 Highway 79 south (way past the part now called Temecula Parkway by some locals) between the hours of 11:30AM – 6PM, folks and visitors will be treated to some of the most excellent jazz available nationally and internationally, along with some of the finest wine available anywhere, all grown from the local vineyards which abound in T-town. Proceeds from this festival will go to “All from The Heart,” a Temecula based non-profit charity that helps out military families in need of assistance hereabouts. Michael Paulo, an artist originally from Hawaii who has been involved in ‘Dolphin Days’ (Hawaii) for the last 14 years, moved to Murrieta five years ago. “I wanted to bring in national, well established (jazz) music acts (here) because I looked around and saw nothing like it when I moved (to town). With all the musicians and industry connections I have, it was not hard to get (the music festival) started.” When asked about past roadblocks and official hoops to jump through from the ‘music Nazis’, Michael replied, “I had no dealings with the city(s) because (the festival) was held at wineries.” The line-up for the 4th Annual T-town Jazz Festival this year is:

Woman murdered in her home in Murrieta, help sought in finding suspect

Murrieta, California - On Monday, 4/28/2008 at 845am the Murrieta Police Department responded to a home in the 39600 block of Tamarisk St regarding a reported residential burglary.  The male adult owner of the home called on 9-1-1 and reported his house had been ransacked and he found his wife unconscious in the upstairs master bedroom.

The husband told police his wife was home alone when he had left the home for about an hour to run some errands.  Upon his return, he drove into his garage and found the side door to the garage had been forced open.  He entered the family home and found his wife unconscious in the upstairs master bedroom.

Officers arrived on scene and met the victim’s husband and mother who directed them to the upstairs bedroom where the wife had obvious signs of trauma.  The officer and paramedics attempted to resuscitate the victim but were unsuccessful.  She was pronounced dead at 908am.

The victim, 40 years old, lived in the home with her 39 year old husband and two children, a 6 month old son and a 12 yr. old daughter.  The children were not home at the time of the burglary and murder and had stayed the night with extended family members.

The death is being investigated as a homicide.  The victim’s name, cause of death and family information are not being released at this time.  Family members and neighbors are being questioned by detectives for any information which would help solve this brutal and senseless crime.

Anyone with any information, please contact Det. Sgt. Jim Ganley at 951-461-6361.

Temecula Earth Day is a Huge Success, free of charge to all

ANARCAT COLLECTIVE - FOOD NOT BOMBS PROVIDE A GREEN SCENE

Temecula, CA – The south end of the duck pond over by Pat & Oscar’s at Rancho Cal and Ynez Road bridget-instructs-audience.jpgprovided the latesthomegrown-music-makes-merry-steppers.jpg ‘scene’ gathering in T-town. Hippie kids, metal heads, punkers, crustys, Goths, anarchists, and just plain young rockers, some of whom remembered or participated in the scene at The Vault and Cuppy’s, all met in the name of green education, the truth about meat, and Earth Day festivities, all organized by Bridget, Janelle, Squeege, and others both in and out of the scene.

A good time was had by all at the peaceful happening which also featured some out of town musical guests, a customized busold-friends-attended-earth-day-like-chloe.jpg that John Madden would envy, free food, and enough educational literature to keep you reading for afree-food-for-all-gods-children.jpg month. The poster flyer advertising the event was done by and shows Bridget, Janelle, and Bridget’s brother Tim ‘shouting out’ in a field with waist tall grass. Truly the Earth Day-Fest that happened in Temecula this Earth Day was something to shout about as these pictures can attest to.

LOCAL TEAM BLAZES TO CHAMPIONSHIP ON 4/20

ELITE BESTS CHIVAS SIMI VALLEY 2-1 ON SCENE KID’S EFFORTS

Temecula, CA – Hundreds gathered here as Cal South Soccer League played their 30th soccer cup championship (1978-2008)tyler-with-state-trophy.jpg matches on a field in T-town this past Sunday, April 20th. Though there were a number of matches being played in different age brackets for the individual state titles of that age, the match that I was there to see was the U19 teen slot.

Playing to their home court advantage, Temec’s Elite U19 soccer team was coming off a devastating prior victory that had cost the team 3 players (all red carded) and sent a player on the opposing side to the hospital with a tragic leg injury. As the parents and soccer moms discussed the prevailing drama attached to the unfortunate accident, both teams took the field for the state championship in the 19 or under category.

The action was brisk, the calls fair, and both teams played gallantly with each tied at one apiece when the half came. After catching their collective breaths, the Simi Valley Chivas joined the Elite club back on the field and action again commenced. This time when the whistle sounded the game’s end and after a close goal miss by the Chivas brought an ‘Oooo’ from the home crowd, Temecula’s Elite club was the indeed that, elite, as the State Champions in their age category, brought about in part by the efforts of Marcus the goalie, and ‘scene kid’ Tyler, known as ‘TJ’ to his teammates and coaches.

I had met Tyler during the last few months that Cuppy’s (new music venue) was open before being shut down unjustly (see archives for stories).

“This is the greatest game I have ever played in,” said Tyler, breathing heavy just after the game’s end as the award ceremony was being readied to go. “This Chivas team is a real class show. They really played us hard.” Then turning to me he said, “You know, I started on this (Elite) team when I was 11 years old, and this game is the culmination of all those years. It just hasn’t sunk in yet.”

Tyler’s foul set up the penalty shot that gave the Elite a 1-0 lead during the first half and Tyler’s ‘bend it like Beckem’ shot scored the winning gooooaal. Stay tuned here to see what other scene kids are doing to make a difference. After all, they aren’t scene to be unseen.

Temecula Music Fest announces performer lineup for May 16-18 2008

4th Annual event to include orchestra, art, acoustic and rock bands

Temecula, California – The Director and Founder of the Temecula Music Fest, Bill Gould, announced today that the line up for the 4th annual Temecula Music Fest is in place and features the most diverse range of performers in the history of the festival. This year’s event will also feature artists, vendors, food and bowling, live and on a wide screen Nintendo Wii system, courtesy of Brunswick Cal Oaks Bowl!

Each day of the festival will also raise funds for 3 different local Non-Profit groups in the Temecula Valley. On Friday, Oak Grove Center in Murrieta, a school for education treatment and the arts will be our featured Non-Profit. Saturday a portion of proceeds will go to S.A.F.E. (Safe Alternatives For Everyone), a local group working to end family violence. Our Sunday our beneficiary will be the Arts Council of Temecula Valley, a group dedicated to preserving the arts and education children in the various disciplines of the arts.

“We are thrilled beyond compare with the way this year’s event has come together. There is such a diverse group of bands playing, along with the artists – this is the biggest and best year we have ever planned!” said Bill Gould, festival Director.

This year’s festival will feature over 35 bands and acoustic performers, multiple different visual artists and vendors.

Amazing bands Cetas Aspire, Jupiter, Robert Holts Orchestra, Guilty Conscience, Starving for Gravity, Opus Humanus and Peachcake will be this years headliners. For a full list of performers visit http://www.TemeculaMusicFest.com, as well you can find a couple of different versions of our festival flyers, venue and ticket info.

“Later this week we will have links to all the bands websites or myspace pages and short bios on our website, TemeculaMusicFest.com; we want you to interact with the bands and really be a part of a special event!” explained Gould, “We are taking this to a whole new level and will hold a ‘Media Day’ at Bob’s Murrieta Pizza on May 15 so the media and fans can come and meet all of the bands, take pictures and really get a feel for what this year is all about.”

The featured Artists will be Xavier Bellante, Todd Sanders and Gerald Clarke. Each artist will be displaying his works and there will be live demonstrations and ‘performance art’ that you can watch.

“There will be some very experimental art and visual concepts in play. Some you will see, some you will touch and some you will watch; come with an open mind and let the art expand your musical horizons” Gould further explained.

Vendors and Non-Profits will be at the festival all three days; there will also be panel discussions with members of the local and regional music community, teaching bands how to further their music career.

Volunteers are still needed for the festival, positions range from stage help to back stage monitors to ushers and parking lot attendants. There are also a couple of vendor spots still available; information can be found at http://www.TemeculaMusicFest.com, by email at info@temeculamusicfest.com or by phone at 951-491-9053.
