Cuppy’s Coffee Murrieta Closes Permanently on Friday March 7 2008
CITY COUNCILS - 4, SCENE COOL SPOTS - 0
Well, Sports Fans, it’s official. Cuppys is DEAD! As of this posting, Cuppy’s Coffee and more is no more. After putting on new music shows, hosting charity events, and being a scene spot for all the cool (place your label here, i.e. scene, Christian, gay, punk, bizarre, etc.) kids for over two years, due to the recent official smack-down, fortified by police harassment and intimidation, Cuppy’s has succumbed and today (March 7) marks the final day you can taste the finest handmade sandwiches made in the valley.
Cuppy’s, as a place where local newly formed bands can get professional music exposure, ended back in December 2007. The crackdown on Cuppy’s signaled the closing of other small coffee shops like the now defunct Cloud 9. Also started from this lengthy on-going battle between new music artists and ‘approved’ music performances is the practice now, in most of the small places supporting the new music, of presenting free shows to the public in an effort to avoid paying 4 grand or more for a ’special use’ permit. Of course this denies the opportunity for any band or artist to make more than gas money at a performance.
Whether this mindset will continue here in the valley is a question that will have to be answered at the next general election, much as the question of whether we will continue to pay almost $4 a gallon of gas, wage an invasion the mainstream wants to call a ‘war’, (sorry Folks, but you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear), by voting for John ‘Let’s Stay In Iraq For 100 Years’ McCain. Meanwhile, So Long, Cuppy’s, those that know always said you were too cool for this valley. We were right!!

Check out Perks Coffee in Temecula! It is next to TJ Maxx and Food For Less. The owner is a great guy and they support local art and music - they are an official sponsor of the Temecula Music Fest 2008.
