Four Arrests made after Murder in Romoland on February 23

Romoland, California - As reported yesterday, February 23, 2008, about 3:30 PM, deputies from the Perris Station responded to a man down call at the 27800 block of Highway 74. This location is approximately one block west of Romoland Elementary School.

Deputies arrived on scene and located a white, male adult suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the Riverside County Regional Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries at 7:09 PM. The identity of the victim is being withheld until proper notifications are made.

On February 24, 2008, about 10:30 AM, investigators with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Central Homicide Unit were able to arrest Saul Avalos for the murder of Charles Richardson (age 60 of San Jacinto).

During the course of the investigation, investigators learned Saul Avalos, Javier Avalos, and victim, Charles Richardson, were involved in a dispute over finances. Saul Avalos produced a firearm and shot Richardson multiple times. Saul and Javier Avalos fled the scene of the crime, met up with Samuel Perez, and drove to a location on Shadybend Dr., City of Moreno Valley.

Investigators served a search warrant in Nuevo and one in Moreno Valley. The search uncovered items of evidence linking Sal Avalos to the homicide along with four pounds of marijuana and several ounces of methamphetamine.

Saul Avalos, age 23 of Nuevo, was arrested for the murder of Charles Richardson.

Javier Avalos, age 22 of Nuevo, was arrested for accessory to murder and possession of marijuana.

Samuel Perez, age 21 of Nuevo, was arrested for accessory to murder and possession of marijuana.

Elezar Morales, age 22 of Moreno Valley, was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, and illegal possession of firearm.

All four males were booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center. Anyone who may have additional information about this incident is encouraged to call Investigator Ryan Bodmer with the Central Homicide Unit at (951) 955-2777 or Investigator Nering with the Perris Station at (951) 940-6200.

THE GREAT DEBATE – PART TWO

WILL THE REAL ISSUE GET A VOICE?

So Cali IE, CA – As the area heats up with the controversy over whether to restrict a play’s content is mulled over by the Temecula City Council, a move that wastes valuable tax dollars by tilting at First Amendment windmills, let’s hear from S.A.F.E. Executive Director, Melissa Donaldson. First she thanks the players, “I want to congratulate you on holding your heads up high in the face of adversity and moving forward to help others, others you will never know. That is truly selflessness. In the light of all that has been said over this play, agree with it or not, this is what makes America, America.”

To the general audience, the City Council, and the distracters, “We need to be outraged and outspoken, but not at the word ‘vagina’, and not at the First Amendment right of these women to speak their piece (on play night), but at domestic violence and the children it leaves motherless and fatherless and the families it leaves utterly devastated. If only we could have been this outraged at the murders of Officer James Lehmann, Officer Bruce Lee, Officer Haugen, and Officer Kent Hintergardt, when these officers responded to calls for help from domestic violence victims and lost their lives. (Or outraged) when Sara Finney, Kate Grant, Catherine Dierks, Eliza Lopez, Lillian Granado, and Ever Council lost their lives at the hands of their husbands and partners? Where were those to speak out in their honor to stop the violence? I tend to think about the “what if’s” in many situations and this one is no different. What if those who spoke out so vehemently against this play would speak out against family violence (and child molestation) with the same ferocity? What if those in our “family oriented community” would speak out when families in our community are devastated by violence”?

When I sold cable TV back in the day via telephone and MTV was hot (and actually showed ‘all music videos, all the time’), not a day would go by when I wouldn’t receive a phone comment about the music station. First I would offer a brief rundown about the station. Secondly, I would recommend the offended and misconnected parent sit down with their siblings and watch/discuss what they saw with their kids. Thirdly, failing all that reasoning, I’d simply say, “listen, you are in control of the TV set. There is a button that says ‘on/off’. Be the parent, and use it!” So I would say to anyone who finds the play, The Vagina Monologues or the cause it represents offensive, use your right as an American and don’t patronize the event with your moolah. As for the telling me what I can or can’t watch, get a time machine, go and move to Nazi Germany and be part of the Third Reich. And finally, leave me and other fellow Americans who believe in freedom of choice, the hell alone.
