I grew up in the segregated town of Louisville, KY. One day after I realized what that term meant, I asked my grandfather if things had always been ‘segregated’ in town and he said, “No. Negroes (blacks) used to go anywhere they wanted to when (he) was a kid. Then one day I got up and there were signs all over town that said, ‘no colored allowed’.” I asked who did this? He said, “some people went to the city council and complained because they didn’t like coloreds having the same freedom as white people. So the city council made the new rules.” They just caved in, I said, as my grandfather’s head nodded in agreement. A few years later, my posse and the rest of the young tan crew reversed the city council’s decision with the help of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This memory flashed through my brain when I read that the city council here in T-town is thinking of making up some new rules about what the playhouse can show. It bothered me because six people from an admittedly conservative organization want to decide what plays the local audience of 200,000 are allowed to watch and get benefit from by taking away the authority of the Temecula Valley Players who perform plays there. It also bothered me that not one of these stalwart community standards overseers had complained when the same playhouse, Old Town’s Community Theatre, had presented ‘The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas’. So you have to ask yourself, what kind of people dislike what God has made (He made vaginas) but don’t complain about what men have made (man made whores)? Simply put, in my opinion, EVIL ones, regardless of the ‘shaky voices who can’t go on’. Great theatrics from the Garden of Good & Evil and very apropos considering God and Freedom are involved. As Jesus went out among the masses (‘a physician doesn’t tend the well’), you can bet that the Devil, a reverse of all things Godly, spends most of his time in church circles rather than in a bar or at a music show. Good news is, ‘The Vagina Monologues’ presentation is sold out!! Now let’s hope the city council doesn’t.
