IS ‘ROCK THE VOTE’ REALLY BLOCK THE VOTE?

REGISTERING OR CHANGING PARTY AFFILLIATION REQUIRES REPEATED FOLLOW-UP
Election 2008, USA – Recently a friend of mine registered as a Republican after being registered as an Independent so he could vote in the Primary. His is his story:
“This is just my personal experience… and if it happened to me, maybe it could happen to you.Having been registered as an Independent for 12 years I needed to change my party affiliation so I could cast my vote for the good doctor.
I clicked the link on the RP08 web site (which directs you to Rock the Vote) and followed the instructions carefully. Printed, signed and mailed the form… abracadabra, done… right…? Well…
Unforeseen Issue #1
I called the Riverside Co. Voter Registrar a month later to check on things and the lady on the phone told me that I had printed my PO Box on the primary address line… further stating that a PO Box is not a valid address when registering to vote. So I just said ok… went back through the steps… RP08 -to- Rock the Vote -to- print, sign mail… again, abracadabra, done… rig ht… well, not quite yet…
Unforeseen Issue #2
A few weeks later (that’s today) I called the Riverside Co. Voter Registrar (again) just to make sure everything was in order. Apparently since those Rock the Vote forms hadn’t asked the question, “What is your place of birth?” my registration was again pending rather than active.
- thank god I’m calling these people, right -
So I gave her the name of my birth state, North Carolina, which she entered into the system making it possible for me (finally) to vote in the California Primary Elections. But I wonder who else, if any, are not active due to some technicalities in the registration system. How many people have used the Rock the Vote forms and therefore haven’t supplied a place of birth to the registrar? So my message to all is this, it can’t hurt to call ‘em.
BE ABSOLUTELY SURE that you are locked and loaded for the primaries!” -Xian
