ARE YOU READY FOR SOME BASEBALL?
THE WRAP-UP TO MY FRIEND KURT’S BASEBALL 2007 ROAD TRIP
FRIDAY – AUGUST 3rd
We drove from Secaucus, NJ (New York City) to Dayton, OH (about 10 hours, 606 miles), arriving at about 7PM, to stay with my friend Dianne Herman at her house in Dayton. We spent the evening just winding down and chatting.
SATURDAY – AUGUST 4th
We made the short drive from Dianne’s house to National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base on the other side of Dayton (arrived 10AM). We took the excellent guided tour of the main museum (3 hours) and then went to Presidential Plane hanger. We stayed until closing (5PM), of course, then we went back to Dianne’s and had a wonderful meal with all of the fixin’s. I even went for a quick swim in her luxurious pool. Great company and accommodations.
SUNDAY – AUGUST 5th
We drove back to Ankeny, IA and it seemed like a much longer trek than the actual 9-10 hours of road time. But we were back from 3,000+ miles of excellent driving by Craig, all safe and sound. I drove up to Ames, IA to stay overnight with my sister, Marcia. We talked for a while before I crashed.
MONDAY – AUGUST 6th
Happy Birthday, Marcia. We spent day together until she had to go to work at 2:30PM. I did a little shopping, went to lunch, and picked up some sweet corn and tomatoes at a street corner. Then we drove to Britt, Iowa for 6-day visit with my parents and other visitors during the weekend of the National Hobo Convention.
TUESDAY – AUGUST 7 through SUNDAY, AUGUST 12th
Britt and Hobo Day week plus a bit of golf but I tweaked my back playing 9 holes on Tuesday, so I was done for the week-bummer. We drove back to Ankeny Sunday night, then Craig and I watched baseball movies for 3 hours.
MONDAY – AUGUST 13th
Craig drove me back to airport before going to work then I flew out of Des Moines at 10:05AM. I was back in California 1+ hour late due to a Dallas delay to fix a part in the pilots’ bathroom. This year’s road trip was done with again some special memories and adventures. Till next year Baseball Fans, this is Kurt saying, ‘Batter Up’.
