I CAME OUT AND THE PARTY STARTED

THE OC WEEKLY ‘BEST OF 2007 BASH’ REVIEW

As I was telling a sales rep back in Minnesota named Irene, you just never know what is going to happen next in So Cali (after she told me she thought she had heard of MySpace). “I walked into Javas, aka Cuppys, this morning and was asked if I wanted to go to a party with beautiful women, free food, beautiful women, and an open bar?” Is the Pope German, I asked, of course I was up, or is it down, for a party, even on a Thursday night. That afternoon Jeremiah, the x-OC Weekly account rep who extended the invite, Keirah, scene doll and longtime friend of the ‘J’ man, and myself headed up the 91 to the 57 South into Anaheim, CA, for the annual ‘Best Of Bash’ put on by the (real) Orange County’s leading independent weekly print mag. For all those who live outside of Hollywood land and watch the thrilling parties staged on TV attended by beautiful people around a high rise hotel’s kidney shaped outdoor pool while a band plays on, I can only say it’s more fun to actually be there in person. Jeremiah dressed in casual ‘artist’ attire (he’s now the drummer for band Nice Day who are opening for Fog Hat October 4th in T-town) and myself in my usual T-shirt and nice blue jeans, made nice bookends for Keirah, who sported a Betty Boob polka dot dress with a purple lace runner along the bottom and beads, plenty of beads, a black short jacket (as this was an outside party), along with a small banana yellow handbag with buttons, plenty of buttons, were welcomed as we drank (LA Waters, Long Island Iced Teas, and other delicious concoctions), ate barbeque, fondue, shrimp, and chocolate pastries, mingled and gambled with free chips (poker, not potato) and met some of Jeremiah’s former co-workers . The band was a Johnny Cash tribute band that did the original justice and added to the conservative vibe of the party. When the band wasn’t playing, music of the 80’s was piped in. A man who was trying to sell air piston pogo sticks only added to the festive atmosphere. Inside the hotel was a medium dance room and more small gambling tables but several young men, attracted by Keirah’s dots and my political ‘King George’ shirt, added a ‘sess’ for dessert before we rolled back down the road for Murr-ville and T-town.

(This is the third article dealing with regional news as the Review branches out beyond T-town. The story about Gotham in San Bernardino and the Van’s Warped Tour in Chula Vista were the first two. Next up is the last Fest of the season, the Neighborhood Music Fest happening next weekend -9/29/07- up in Los Angeles. See the awesome musical line-up in this Monday’s Full Value Review.)
