Temecula, CA – Effective immediately, the Freedom Of Music And Art or F.O.M.A.A. announces their non-profit status is now registered with the State. Formed initially as a way to voice unified opposition against the new proposed noise ordinance that the planning commission and City had authored, the group united under this mission purpose:
Mission StatementThe purpose of FOMAA is to educate, protect and advance all types of music and art disciplines in America by providing art and music programs for the public to enjoy, grants to artists in need and educational opportunities for people of all ages. The group, which has a website and an executive board, had their initial meeting to a warm response. Future public meetings will be held to gauge the public on all issues that effect artists and artists-in-training that live in the valley. A public awareness school program that emphasizes the ‘garage bands’ that exist in the school systems has been designed as the first non-profit program to be put in place. The board meets monthly or as necessary. Input is requested from artists in disciplines other than music and performance as well. LUCKY 13 – THIS YEAR’S VAN’S WARPED TOUR

A HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL CARNIVAL

On a rock packed weekend, the first day, Friday, started with going to my first Warped Tour, sponsored by Van’s, the legendary California tennis shoe maker. Van’s like Coors’s Beer used to be region specific, but now can be found across the USA at many malls and stores. Like the shoes, the Tour brings many bands together from all over the country. Without trying to give you a set list of who played that you can get that off the internet, I’ll just list a couple of band references toward the end of this piece. Since this was my first Van’s Warped Tour, I want to make my observations about the whole concert. First, the Warped Tour is a spectacle that should be viewed at least twice. The first time, you just try to take everything in, get a feel for things, and find a schedule as soon as you get inside and as quick as possible. You will find and hear bands that catch your attention so the second time you see the tour you can check these new found bands out. Also take money, beers are $10 and I went through over a hundred dollars like I was at Disneyland. Save money for a Warped Tour CD and they were very reasonably priced at $5, not bad for a double CD package. The people are friendly, or they were at the Coors Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, just south of San Diego. Even the Bros who eyed my traveling scene companion, Keirah, then flashed their shirtless triceps, did it in a non-threatening way. Also there is a curious thing about the Warped Tour, you will run into old friends/past lovers there, provided that you are under 25 (present writer excepted as I saw old friends Meg&Dia, and the members of Animo, formally D.O.R.K.). The main stage music is loud, with some bands being louder than others, but it was very clear, so KUDOS to the sound jockeys, especially since it was the next to last tour date stop. Lyman has a good team of professionals, I guess that’s why this tour is Number 13. I never saw any fights though there was alcohol served and you had a feeling like you were at a music carnival, with multi-colored booths displaying band wares instead of hawking ‘games’ of chance’ and baiting you by saying, ‘C’mon, get on the trolley,’ but also not as trippy as a Dead show parking lot with its baby coach chocolate ‘shrooms’. So indeed, this is a tour to see twice, if possible, because the Van’s Warped Tour is bigger than one day. Also the musical coverage of genre bands is excellent. There were rockers, hardcore screamers, power pop, punk pop, and fresh alternative, take a bow, MAD.
