‘TO BETTER SEE YOU WITH’ – Another View of Doctor Patrick Utnehmer
(In the collection of my many favorite ‘Simpsons’ episodes is the one where Bart takes over Lisa’s daily school news TV show with a segment called, Bart’s People. Good ‘human interest’ stories never lose their appeal is the moral here. As a new feature added to offset the breaking hard news and scene news, the Full Value Review presents ‘PT’s PEOPLE’, spotlighting people of the valley who catch our eye.)
Back when I lived in an area of the Midwest called the Quad Cities, I would sometimes find myself at the residence of Dr. Randy Cadot, a friend and my doctor of choice. Dr. Randy, as we called him, had that personality and bedside manor exhibited by doctors that made ‘house calls’ back in your granddad’s day or like the ones you see portrayed in old B&W movies like Calling Dr. Kildare. What made me most reassured however, as I would sit in the rustic opulence of his river bluff country house on hot summer nights after being a ‘river rat’ all day, was the knowledge that for two weeks a year, Dr. Randy went with a team of other doctors and treated patients in Haiti for free. He looked forward to doing this every year and came home energized Hypocatically. Fast forward to now, well, to a few years ago anyway.
