Explosive Issue: Homemade Bomb found near Hwy 79 Wal-Mart in Temecula

Temecula, California - On Thursday, June 28, 2007, at about 11:23 AM, the Temecula Police Department responded to a call of a suspicious device located behind a building at Apis Rd. and Wolf Store Rd., near Wal-Mart and Henrys Market in the City of Temecula.

Officers arrived at the scene and located a small cylinder-shaped item with duct tape around it. A safety perimeter was established and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Hazardous Device Team responded. The Hazardous Device Team was able to render the device safe. During the investigation, the device was determined to be a homemade explosive.

The Temecula Police Department will be investigating this incident and would like to find the person responsible for this homemade item. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call detectives at the Temecula Police Department at (951) 696-3000.

Temecula Valley News Update: DUI Checkpoints, Anza Murder suspect in custody

DUI Checkpoint Planned

Temecula, California - The Temecula Police Department will be conducting a DUI checkpoint on Saturday, July 7, 2007 from 7:00 PM to 2:00 AM at an undisclosed location in the city. During this time the department will also be conducting a roving saturation patrol. The purpose of this checkpoint and saturation patrol will be to check for impaired drivers and check driver’s license status.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the Business, Transportation and Housing agency. The California Office of Traffic Safety and Temecula Police also want to remind you that if you choose to drink alcoholic beverages, please designate a sober driver before getting into a vehicle. Remember “Drunk Driving… Over the Limit, Under Arrest!”

Police Scanner: Riverside Sheriff Deputy arrested in Murrieta shooting, marijuana incendent

Murrieta, California - On Sunday June 24, 2007 at 0135 hours, Murrieta Police Officers were dispatched to 40575 California Oaks Rd.george graves (The Corner Pocket Sports Café) in regards to shots being fired. The responding officers’ investigation revealed a subject later identified as George Graves, a Riverside Sheriff Deputy, had negligently discharged his firearm from the passenger side of his vehicle. Witnesses stated Graves is known to frequent the Corner Pocket and was upset that the establishment was closing for the night. Graves entered the passenger side of his vehicle which was driven by Graves’ friend Rickey Renwerick.

The vehicle drove away west bound along a service road leading to Jackson Ave. The security guard for the Corner Pocket saw an arm come out of the passenger window of the vehicle. The security guard heard one gunshot and saw the muzzle flash from the weapon on the passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle sped away west on the service road out of sight. The security guard heard approximately 4 more gunshots and stated the vehicle was probably at Jackson Ave.
