On the road with Burke: Exile on not so main street

Written By: Burke

Northern California - Feeling all re-energized and Up With People and stuff from my nice 4 hour nap in that pretty clearing by the stream, I got back on my bike and proceeded to pedal my ass off.

However….it was now looking like there was a damn good chance I wasn’t going to be able to make it all the way to San Francisco by bike. I was making pretty damn good time….in my first day of travel I had put in 80 miles. But to make it to my show, I would have to be in San Francisco by the next day, and I still had around 170 miles left to go, according to the roundabout directions I had (when you go from Chico to San Francisco without using any freeways, it adds an extra 60 miles to the trip).

So I called my buddy Dan up and he mapquested the directions to Pittsburgh for me.

Things went pretty smoothly until about 30 miles later, when I was twenty miles or so away from Pittsburgh, just outside of an obscure little town called Rio Vista.

I suddenly found myself on one of the worst damn highways in the world.
