A LITTLE FROM COLUMN ‘A’, A LITTLE FROM COLUMN ‘B’

INTERNATIONAL NEWS & LOCAL NEWS

Column A – While most people are reading the ‘fluff’ mixed with some hard news on MSN or listening to the all spin zone on FOX and the other mainstream media, things like the fact that Nigeria is trying to bring a federal lawsuit against Pfizer, a Fortune 500 USA firm, goes unreported. The lawsuit by the government of Nigeria seeks to stop Pfizer, a prescription drug company, from testing new antibiotics on orphans in Nigeria, a practice that has left many of the orphans dead, paralyzed, or whacked in some physical way. The unethical practice harkens back to the Nazi way of using ‘undesirable’ humans as test animals and lab rats, but goes the evil extra mile by using defenseless children on another continent. Kind of gives the term ‘ugly American’ a fresh twisted up-to-date look, don’t cha know. Who knew Hannibal Lector was a major Pfizer stock holder?

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT

NEW ERA DONS FOR NEW MUSIC LOVERS
Temecula, CA – Perhaps because I came from towns that had long since been developed and commercialized before I came on the scene, my life here in this valley has been a different experience from that standpoint. I watched the first KFC and DQ come to Murrieta. I’ve seen the hills get mauled into housing pads and kids go from being home-schooled to become moms and dads themselves. And just when I thought the new music scene had grown into the next logical step, going from a small under-the-radar coffee shop gathering to a coffee bar specializing in music shows to the next level venue with The Vault, I was witness to the next level of music participation and growth for this area, and something quite extraordinary for any locale. It happened like this:

THE LATEST AROUND T-TOWN

T-TOWN TIDBITS – BANDS, BIRTHDAYS, AND THE BEAT REPEAT
Temecula, CA – New guitarist but old friend, Jason Walker, a recent return to the valley has joined the band SERPENT UNDERGROUND as of last Sunday 5/20/07. Jason played guitar with Bill Gould’s first band, SUPER DANK, back in the day and may have contributed on a track or two with early KEENWILD, before moving on to a ‘real job’ in computer programming and finance. On a side note, it was Jason who performed the vows for Jeney and Bill when they tied the knot by procuring a ‘minister-for-a-day’ California license.

THE VAULT REOPENS WITH THE RIGHT COMBINATION!!

AND THEN THERE WERE NONE

Temecula, CA – Objections, that is, to be met by The Sounds Of Music owner Riccardo as he re-opened Temecula’s newest all ageready-for-vegas-1.jpgs music venue, The Vault. The story of the reopening was first broken by Full Value Review and then put in print by Friday’s North County Times’ The Californian by Nicole Sack, who also covered the city’s closing of the same venue almost two weeks ago. Friday night’s triumphant rock show was unique indeed for a number of reasons.

First, the Valley News, a free publication found at many local outlets around the valley from T-town to E-town (Lake Elsinore, CA) featured a new section in their tabloid called ‘On Top Of The Underground’. Besides coverage of the just past Temecula Music Fest, one article was about local favs, the READY FOR VEGAS band and their small-rfv-shot.jpgdrive to support our troops in Iraq by collecting preserved food stuffs. RFV was one of the bands playing the ‘re-open show’ at The Vault, along with FALLING DOWN HURTS from Lubbock, Texas, A ROMANCE THESIS, and BURNING TREE PROJECT fresh from MTV2.

Words of Frances: Coffeehouse Venues Rake in the Muff(ins)

If you live anywhere on the face of the planet known as Earth, you’re probably familiar with Starbucks. However, what we need isn’t a new summertime Wheatgrass Frappachino (because that would be disgusting)… what we need are more coffeehouses that allow local artists to plug in and strut their stuff on a stage. Perhaps not even a stage. A chair and an empty corner would suffice.
