HEY DON IMUS, EVER HEAR OF EARL BUTZ?
It has been said that those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. In 1972, the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Earl Butz, was aboard Air Force One with President Nixon who was in the midst of getting re-elected. A reporter asked him if Nixon was going to make an effort to try and attract any Black voters for the upcoming election. He answered ‘no, why should (Nixon) when everyone knew that black people always voted Democrat’. The reporter was talking to Butz because he was not only a close friend and ally to Nixon, he was also one of the most powerful people in Washington as the Ag Sec and had been for close to 20 years. He knew the political landscape, the power brokers, and the deal makers, and they all knew and feared Butz.
