Officer Dies on Duty: Funeral Mass set for March 27 in La Quinta

La Quinta, California - Sheriff Bob Doyle and the men and women of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department are saddened to announce the death of Deputy Sheriff Manuel Villegas on March 19, 2007. He died as the result of a traffic collision while on duty, while responding to a domestic violence call in Thermal, California. Deputy Villegas joined the Department in November 2005. He is survived by his wife and four children. Funeral arrangements for Deputy Villegas are as follows:

Biography of Deputy Sheriff Manuel Villegas

On November 14, 2005 Manuel Villegas began his career with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff Trainee. During his 26 weeks at the Sheriff’s Basic Academy, Manuel distinguished himself as an outstanding recruit, finishing first in his class upon graduation on April 25, 2006. In addition to finishing first in his academy class he was also awarded the California Academy Directors Association Award acknowledging “the student in the course who has proven to be the most inspirational role model and sets high standards for other students to follow”. Manuel was an outstanding athlete and also set the Basic Academy Record for the mile and one half run at just 8 minutes and 1 second.

Dont Shoplift: Six Adults and two Teens arrested in Murrieta near Java Joz

Murrieta, California - Across from Java Joz on Friday, March 16, and Saturday, March 17, 2007, Deputies from the Southwest Station conducted a commercial burglary operation in cooperation with the Alberstons grocery store at the intersection of Murrieta Hot Springs and Winchester Road in French Valley. During the operation six adults and two juveniles were arrested for crimes ranging from burglary, shoplifting, arrest warrants, possession of drugs, and drunk in public.

Support your community: “Tip-A-Cop” for the Special Olympics

Riverside County, California - Sheriff Bob Doyle and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department will be participating in the annual Tip-A-Cop program. Tip-A-Cop is a fun-filled event that bonds the community and develops partnerships, all for a worthy cause. Tip-A-Cop events are fundraisers for Special Olympics.Sheriff Bob Doyle said, “I encourage everyone to support Tip-A-Cop and our Special Olympians. My thanks to all of you who have supported our program in the past and to Applebee’s for hosting this very worthy event.”
