CALLING ALL T-TOWNERS AND TEMECULITES

TVHS STARTS IC EVENT SEASON

Temecula, CA – ‘Temecula Valley High School students are critical thinkers and problem solvers, clear communicators, effective collaborators, and productive citizens’ says the large flag banner above the door and one school club in particular has set out to provide proof of that credo. That club is Ms. Lauren Hogerheiden’s Invisible Children United Crew. Her ICU Crew has been meeting and mapping out a strategy to continue the awareness of the children and adult plight of the Acholi Tribe in and around the town of Gulu, in Northern Uganda, first started by the school three years ago. Coincidentally, Forrest Whitaker just won an Academy Award for portraying Idi Amin, the charismatic but brutal dictator of Uganda prior to the present government which came to power because of his decades long presence.
The Invisible Children United ([1] link) Entertainment Night, this Friday, March 2nd, 2007 in the gym will also feature the Stomper (‘Stomp The Yard’) Team, Advanced Dance, a Drum Line (Yeeow!), Hip-Hop Urban Street League, maybe a singer, and the piece ‘de resistance, a showing of the original film, ‘Invisible Children – Rough Cut’ which runs about 35 minutes. Doors at 6PM sharp. $3 at door; $1 presale (school). A new IC program ‘Schools For Schools’ allows the school to directly track the money raised by the club as it is put to use in Uganda via the internet. Ms. H, to her courageous credit, is planning to teach in Uganda during her summer break this year. I urge all readers within driving distance to T-town to come, pack the gym, and be part of something bigger than American Idol. Come for the entertainment, stay for the Crew, and ‘represent’ to the Invisible Children of the Acholi. Hope to see you there.
(ed note: for archive articles, type ‘invisible children’ in the search window at the bottom of the left thumbnail column.)
