DORK in Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, band looses guitarist Bryan Knoebel
February 11, 2007 by Bill Gould, Publisher.
Denver - The mile high city’s favorite pop-punk band D.O.R.K. was lucky enough to be included in the Warped Tour display at the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. The display, which started in late January 2007, will continue for an entire year
and then be resurected 25 years from now. Included in the display is a drumhead from Jimmy ‘Styx’ Blair and a video interview with lead vocalist / guitarist Schuyler Ankele. D.O.R.K. has been called ‘the ultimate D.I.Y. (do it yourself) kids’ by Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman, who himself has invited the band on the entire tour for 3 straight years dispite the band not being signed to a record label.
In other news, the band has announced that after 5 years and many tours, founding guitarist / vocalist Bryan Knoebel will be performing his last show with the band on February 24 at the Marquis Theater in Denver. According to the band, Bryan made this choice and he has no plans to continue making music, however the band and Bryan are still freinds. D.O.R.K. will continue on as a four peice band with Schuyler on lead vocals and guitar and Brian ‘New Guy’ Johannsen playing lead guitar and singing backing vocals.
D.O.R.K. will be hitting the road in May to play the 2007 Temecula Music Fest on May 18 in Temecula, California. The band will play the opening night of the 3 day fest at the Old Town Temecula Theatre, a brand new 12 million dollar facility that seats 350 and features state of the art sound and lighting. This years event is sponsored by IE Weekly, Guitar Center of Murrieta, The City Of Temecula and the Temecula Arts Council. Tickets go on sale for the event in just a few weeks, so look out for an announcement on the fest website http://www.temeculamusicfest.com or the myspace http://www.myspace.com/temeculamusicfest. WAR PROTESTERS TAKE T-TOWN TRAFFIC HOSTAGE
Temecula, CA - As the war debate heats up on the other end of the country in Congress, a group of local young people gathered at a park just east of the Promenade Mall to stage an ‘old fashioned’ war protest. I say ‘old fashioned’ because back in the day, war protesters stirred up trouble. War protesters were not like civil rights demonstrators. War protesters did things that said ‘Notice Me and What I Am Saying/Telling You’. War protesters were in your face! Well, tonight as I started to witness the last Murrieta show of JUPITER with their original singer which would cap a night of live music featuring JEZEBEL, MACHINES MAKE NOISE, NARWHAI, and THE TRADE (debut CD due out very shortly, watch this space for the review), traffic was being snarled for people turning left from Winchester Road onto Margarita Road at the northeast corner of the Mall. The reason, Bridget, Jimmy, and their loose band of protesters bearing signs that said “Bring Them Home” (yellow ribbon design you see with ‘support our troops’ except in black), “U.S. Out Of Iraq – Bring Our Troops Home Now”, “Hand in Hand – Tucson Peace Center (www.peacecalendar.org)”, “End The Bush Nightmare”, “La Dignidad No Tiene Fronteras (loosely, ‘human dignity has no boundaries’), “Stop U.S. Imperialism”, and “isí se puede! – www.peacesupplies.org”. By using the crosswalk signals, Bridget and crew controlled the flow of traffic through one of the busiest streets in town, especially on a weekend night when everyone is out and about, to cross the street flashing the signs bearing their message. After first setting up in the park around 4:20 and making signs on the grass while a stiff cool breeze blew, the group had a communal meal of pasta and other veggie treats before starting out, just like the protest demonstrators of old. T-town’s finest showed up to join the fray and a very upset Marine hopped out of his car, ready to ‘take it to the bridge’. Who knows where these plucky 20-somethings will show up next to protest the invasion and destabilization of a sovereign nation by this government on ‘cooked’ Intel? Nobody’s saying but when they do, read about it here FIRST!
