POSTER CHILDREN PRESENTED TO TVHS (TEMECULA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL)
February 1, 2007 by PT Rothschild.
Temecula, CA – English students of Temecula Valley High School teacher Lauren Hogerheiden, herein known as Ms. H, have noticed a new poster up on the wall. Posters on a teacher’s wall!? What’s new about that, you ask? This new poster highlights the focus of Ms. H’s extracurricular school club, INVISIBLE CHILDREN UNITED. The poster is vintage being from last year’s Global Night Commute and shows a child soldier shopped into a backpacked kid from the suburbs. Both kids form a whole and contrasting child that looks out at you with an expression of grim determination but from two perspectives. This school year’s ICU club was formed by Ms. H to raise benefit funds to donate to the INVISIBLE CHILDREN PROJECT which grew from a movie shot by three ‘kids’ out of San Diego (college grads, so stay in school kids). The story and movement soon spread across the country, touching everyone in its path, and came to the attention of Ms. H.
Since late September approximately 30 students have met during their lunch hour to spur their local drive to help children half a world away have a chance for an education. So far the group has both raised public awareness and collected donations. Today handmade ICU posters went up around campus announcing their next venture to raise funds, an on-campus showing of an abbreviated 35 minute version of ‘Invisible Children - Rough Cut’.
The Invisible Children United (link) Entertainment Night, Friday, March 2nd, 2007 in the gym will also feature the Stomper (‘Stomp The Yard’) Team, Advanced Dance, a Drum Line (Yeeow!), Hip-Hop Urban Street League and maybe a singer. Doors at 6PM sharp. $3 at door; $1 presale (school).
