SCENE NEWS – 2007
1/11/07 – On the local T-town new ‘new music’ scene, it was announced tonight that two fresh music talents are in the process of recording full length CD albums. The first is none other than the always fantastic BIPSY. Elizabeth, her given name, first came on the scene as barista help when Java Jo’z first started hosting shows with FVE. It was a time when the ‘scene’ there first started to gel into a cast of regulars. The tall strawberry blonde with the strange cool ‘tat’ in the top nape of her back stood out from the bevy of hottie regulars with her statue and her attractive Armenian features. Displaying the cool wit of an artist, Bipsy soon gathered a following among the regulars, all coffeehouse intellectuals, before she ever first took to the coffee shop stage. However, the first time Bipsy became BIPSY, was on an open mike night, wowing the crowd with her trumpet impersonation, her keyboard playing, and her stage presence. A ‘star’ was born, at least for the regulars. The rest of the crowd that night seemed to agree also. Each time since when she appeared on open mike with her keyboard or whatever instrument she had in tow, she mesmerized the crowd by the sheer intensity of her pure talent, borne from the anvil of anguish rather than any tutored lesson, delivered with the grand vengeance of a classically trained musician. That musical style, the whimsical chit-chat with the audience, and the original and obscure musical pieces done to perfection, make BIPSY a joy to see and experience. It is happiness to hear that after a dream first conceived at 12 years old, a CD full of BIPSY is now in the works for her growing fan base.
The second ‘new’ talent to announce putting in some ‘Tulsa time’ (‘gigging in the studio’ for you squares not hip to EC) is none other than another open mike alumni, J. MITCHELL. Justin, no kin to Hale, began polishing his vocals playing his original songs, three at a time, on open mike nights to get back in shape from being a part of THE CHEMISTRY band’s long forced hiatus. Fan reaction had been good and tonight at Java Jo’z JM brought the full house to open the show. He also handed out a Free Sampler 2 song CD demo. The full length CD is due out sometime close to St. Valentine’s Day, an apropos ‘holiday’ considering the two tracks on the ‘Sampler’, ‘The Love’, ‘Fool In Love’. Both well crafted tunes look at ‘love’ in two different lights and exhibit fine production values. A source over at See’s hinted that a CD release party featuring heart shaped candy boxes with a CD taped to the top might be in the works, but I think she’s just after me lucky charms. More on both these stories as they crack in ‘07.
