IN 2007 THE PLOT WILL THICKEN
Well, the New Year has been rung in, but rather than being a ‘new’ start, it is a continuum of 2006. The President’s War still goes on unabated, claiming more and more lives, as the situation slowly spirals downhill. President Bush has finally made a change in the war’s course, a proposed change, anyway. More troops. Two-thirds of the country doesn’t agree, but public opinion rarely sways the finest politicians money and tradition can influence. At home here the daily news reported that Murrieta’s city council reported that public safety was, they felt, the top priority for the local public. Without that, “you’re living in Baghdad,” was the sound bite from some council member who had probably seen Borat. To the casual observer seeing the past and recent ethics problems with city administrators in Murr-ville, I would think the council’s message to the people should be something more to the tone of setting higher council integrity and moral codes, and maybe jettisoning or at least suspending sitting members who have legal matters and possibly jail time pending. Both T-town and Lake Elsinore are fighting outside interests wanting inside our little valley, a stone quarry and power station respectively. News from the people pushing pot reform, recreationally and medically, is also more of the same. Rather than pushing the new Congress to restore the herb to its original schedule, the various groups seem to want to throw Playboy parties where well-to-do people sit around and talk about the problem (and see really barely clad beautiful girls – how can you keep a train of thought in that atmosphere?) or engage in dialog with a new unresponsive D.A. while not investigating the candidate’s position before he was elected to the office. So, in 2007, the ‘pot party’ is back to square 1, and of course, they need a contribution to try and go for square 2, again. In my personal life, the dramatic elements that entered it in the last quarter have only gathered momentum, so that is also ‘more of the same’. I don’t have to come across three witches stirring a pot, I mean kettle, to know the ‘plot is getting thicker as the days go by, like 2006 was Part 1.
