HOT CHRISTIAN CHICKS COME TO ROOST IN T-TOWN
January 3, 2007 by PT Rothschild.
Temecula, CA - Now that I have your attention, the chicks I’m talking of are chick-ens and they are served hot, sandwich style, at one of the newest eateries here in the valley, Chick-fil-A®. Started in 1946 after WWII and operated in such a tiny short order (old ‘old school’ term for ‘fast food’) restaurant that it was named ‘The Dwarf Grill’, south Atlanta, GA, businessman Truett Cathy and his wife Jeannette, served up the ‘world’s first chicken sandwich’ outside mom’s kitchen and way before the Colonel. In 1967, the first Chick-fil-A® restaurant opened in the Greenbriar Mall in Atlanta, after convincing the mall owners the restaurant wouldn’t make a mess of their facilities. By the 80’s the independent business chain had moved north of the Mason-Dixon Line opening up mall locations both in Illinois and Iowa. Now the chain has moved west and is opening up stores in locations left by out-of-business Krispy Kream donut shops. “It’s a good deal for us because the stores are already built and usually in good area locations,” said one bright-eyed employee as he served up my hot and tasty chicken sandwich, which was free because of another marketing tactic to bring customers to the new eatery. Chicken biscuits, a nice break from the usual fast food breakfast fare, are also offered as well as deserts to round out the sandwich menu in the open, not tiny anymore, people friendly locale.
Chick-fil-A® has a commitment to people beyond just serving up the ‘world’s first chicken sandwich’. The organization has Winshape Homes®, a foundation that provides long term foster care to hundreds of kids in need of a caring home; Camp Winshape® where upwards of 1500 boys and girls learn about nature and camaraderie each summer; and of course a college scholarship program for eligible employees. People always ask, “Why are you closed on Sundays?” Respecting the hard work of the employees, the restaurant chain believes in giving them the day off to worship, if they choose, or to spend the day with family and friends. Now that’s a Christian and American ethic you can sink your teeth into. To find the nearest location and more info, click here. To find the current location here in the valley, head for the outer loop of the Promenade Mall on the Margarita Road side where, you guessed it, the old KK donut shop used to be, and ‘bon appetite’.
