THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES BRING THE NIGHTS OF OUR MUSIC

AND THE BEAT GOES ON …
Full Value Entertainment rolled out another ‘standing room only’ (SRO) show at Java Jo’z on Friday night, but with a twist. It was the birthday night for two teens, one who just turned 18 the night before and one teen who turned 17 that Friday. Ziad, Paul Bahou’s cousin who turned 18 the night before (see ‘The Last Last Show’), was back for a second night straight. The reason for his return was that the band, STRIKE TWELVE, was playing on tonight’s bill (second) and his other cousin, Paul’s brother Dan, plays drums in ST. Otherwise the place just filled up, with a large contingent of teens dressed like it was prom night. They were there for the 17th birthday of Rosy, the birthday girl all dressed up in a perky red dress with a hoop skirt, flanked by her two BFFs. “I knew there would be a lot of people here so I got two cakes,” she said, showing who put this birthday bash together in fine fashion. The party theme was ‘the 80’s’ so ST’s front man Matt was dressed in trendy Risky Business attire; black dress shirt, untucked, David Lee Roth leopard skin spandex pants, sports socks with black calf stripes, and the ‘just fucked hair’ style. After opening with the line, “this is our 100th time playing here,” Strike Twelve took control of the room that also had parents there for the party. In truly what may sound bizarre when I write about it, isn’t, and was somehow pulled off in a way this only this band could do. It was a ‘you had to be there’ kind of thing. Starting the set with the song ‘Breathe’, the boys rolled through the set but still my ‘Spidey’ sense was tingling. There was good response from the festive crowd for each song. Finally Matt, who has been playfully focusing the limelight on the birthday girl and her court throughout the entire set, brought the girls center stage, got them to moan into the mike, then did the ‘Katie & Emma’ song, the subject matter of which is having underage sex. To do the song, Matt pretended to tune his guitar then returned with a ‘bulge’ stuffed into his spandex. YEAH!
NUMBER 6 played prior to ST and MAIDA VALE and TOKYO STATIC played following STRIKE TWELVE but as my son had a wrestling tournament the next day, I had to bounce early.
The very next night, Saturday, Full Value Entertainment again put on a show at Java Jo’z. This time it was acoustic as SAMANTHA CATHCART, DAVID WONG, KEENWILD, and PREFERRED PLAYLIST played to a full room. Arriving after the ‘Metz X Fest’, I was in time to see BLAKE WILLIAMS finish his set and JEALOUS of BILLY ELLIOT start his. Both acts were tight and compliment each other in the line-up. It was another solid FVE show night. Although this was the night that Johnny officially turned over the keys and passed the reins, it would seem that this scene spot is not, I repeat, not in danger of dying. James, the new owner and strangely starting a ‘J’ owner tradition, says, “You won’t recognize this place in a month. We’re repainting (keep it turned here for any construction notices) and we are going to add some things.” Word on the street is a new sound system to replace Johnny’s and more lights (spots and pots). James, who works two jobs (and who doesn’t out here in Paradise) and is finishing up a Doctorate Program, has now enrolled into the School of Rock.
