‘LOSING WITH STYLE’ - A WINNING CD Review

LOSING WITH STYLE – THE RAINMAN SUITE CD Review

There is a certain work ethic to L.A. bands and that is that they have a work ethic that’s professional. When TRS rolled into town, they set up like professionals with no wasted efforts. They played their set with no wasted time tuning or gabbing between songs. So when you listen to ‘Losing With Style’ the 2006 CD release by the L.A. three piece, THE RAINMAN SUITE, led by singer/songwriter/guitarist Josh Robinson, with Jeff D. Ripper rat-a-tating the drums, and Ryan Pist doing bass and back-up vocals, you feel that same no-nonsense approach in their catchy crafted tunes. Though they bill themselves as pop punk, listening to the first three tracks, puts you in the vein of a CHEAP TRICK happy rock beat complete with hanging guitar riffs, rock solid bass lines and crisp clean drum beats that set the songs’ pace. Besides the tight sound, the boys harmonize very well together to deliver a vocal sound style like THE CLASH meet AC/DC, which is anything but losing.  The title track song changes pace without losing the blistering guitar work found in the band’s basic framework to playing music. The production on the Five Finger Records disc is crisp and edgy, suiting the band’s sound perfectly, especially on the ballads, ‘Cahuenga Blvd.’, ‘I Feel Fine’ and the stand-out bullet; track No.7, ‘I Hate Music’. This is a band worth seeing and a CD worth having in your heavy rotation. Band info here.

11 QUOTES I BELIEVE SHOW GEORGE BUSH HAS AN I.Q. OF 91

Recently we got some fan mail that questioned the validity of the article posted here, ‘The President’s ID’, which put forth the idea that George W.Bush has an IQ of 91, the lowest of any president since FDR. Since our small, overstretched staff has neither the time nor money to research this claim, and being the ‘facilatator’ of such article, I offer, with a hat off to David Letterman, the Top Eleven quotes from the man himself that show, I believe, George W. Bush has an IQ of 91:

         11. “We have a firm commitment to NATO; we are a part of
NATO. We have a firm commitment to Europe.  We are a
               part of Europe.”

         10.  ”We are ready for any unforeseen event that may or may
                not occur.”

           9.  ”For NASA, space is still a high priority.”

           8.  “The vast majority of our imports come from outside
                 the country.”

           7.  ”If we don’t succeed, we run the risk of failure.”

           6.  “One word sums up probably the responsibility of any
Governor, and that one word is ‘to be prepared’.”

           5.  “It’s time for the human race to enter the solar
                system.”

           4.  ”A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people
                going to the polls.”

           3.  ”It isn’t pollution that’s harming the environment.
It’s the impurities in our air and water that are doing it.”

           2.   ”I stand by all the misstatements that I’ve made.”

           1.   When asked by a little girl visiting Washington what the White House was like,                  George W. Bush replied, “Well, it’s white.”
