MIDWESTERN WEATHER HITS INLAND EMPIRE

MIDWESTERN WEATHER STRIKES T-TOWN

Temecula, CA – today for the second day in a row the weather around T-town has been fierce. Yesterday a downpour drenched Murrieta and Temecula and today another gnarly weather system spawned a small tornado that touched down in Murrieta. Jaryn Anderson called his dad from the afternoon TVHS school bus and, “I can see a tornado over to the right, out the window. The bus driver saw it first and he’s rushing to get us home.” Jaryn, a recent transplant from the ‘tornado alley’ state of Indiana and new to the area, had no idea of what neighborhood or even what side of town he was on. The twister was placed in Murrieta by the owner of 32 Degree Ice who described it as ‘brownish’ and although not the like the ones that make the news, still ‘tossed large trashcans up into the air.’

Nor was this ‘divers’ weather limited to just this immediate area. Bill Gould, Menifee resident and ‘Mr. Full Value’ reported that he ‘had never seen anything like (the weather) ever’ here. Further up the I-215, Planet Hemet was also catching hail as the temperature dropped to around 55 degrees, as opposed to 106 just twenty minutes away, and that’s at the speed limit. By 6PM the skies were as clear as any ‘expected’ Southern California night could be with nary a trace of any storm, not even a wet street. A much larger storm cell located more northest may have also spawned twisters earlier in the day.

This weather may not sound harsh to a Midwesterner, but this is So Cali, ten miles from the ocean, we don’t get tornados every day. We’re not in Kansas.

Gig reports and editorial comments for the week Sept 6, 2006

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
our hearts go out-
I got this note from Steve Brown last week: “Hi everyone, Due to a family tragedy, I have had to cancel the Pint & Dale concert on Sept. 14. Thank you for your support, Steve Brown”. I replied that I was sorry and was there anything I could do, he replied that he and Delphine had lost their son, who lived in Texas.
There is not very much anyone can say to a parent who has lost a child, but our community is very fond of Steve and Delphine and I thought many would like to visit the mortuary site, see a photo of Kieran and perhaps offer a few words of sympathy http://www.turrentinejacksonmorrow.com/detail.php?id=1872. Steve didn’t authorize me to print this, but I hope he won’t mind. The desert community surrounds he and Delphine with love.
Dat’s all for now.
Work like you don’t need the money.
Love like you’ve never been hurt.
Dance like nobody’s watching.
Sing like nobody’s listening.
Stay in tune.
Da prez
Pioneer Days Musicians Sought The 70th annual Pioneer Days Festival is seeking musicians who would like to perform October 20 & 21 at Luckie Park in 29 Palms.  Unfortunately, the Chamber of Commerce is armed with a small budget, so I can make no guarantee of pay for musicians, but I’m trying to round up some funds.  CDs can be sold there and the event will be well promoted, so we should have a great turnout.  We need bands for 40 minute sets, and solo acts for in between sets.  For information, please zap me an e-mail at shanghaibrown@yahoo.com. Thanks! Steve Brown
Orwell quotes seem particularly appropriate in these times—from Sam
“We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men.” — George Orwell
“Political language. . . is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.” — George Orwell
“They could be made to accept the most flagrant violations of reality, because they never fully grasped the enormity of what was demanded of them, and were not sufficiently interested in public events to notice what was happening.” — George Orwell
“The nationalist not only does not disapprove of atrocities committed by his own side, but he has a remarkable capacity for not even hearing about them.” — George Orwell
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” — George Orwell; English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

more quotes:

“Half a truth is often a great lie.” — Benjamin Franklin

“The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly…it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over.” — Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Propaganda Minister

“The process [of mass-media deception] has to be conscious, or it would not be carried out with sufficient precision, but it also has to be unconscious, or it would bring with it a feeling of falsity and hence of guilt… To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just so long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies - all this is indispensably necessary.” — George Orwell in the book 1984

“Like the effect of advertising upon the customer, the methods of political propaganda tend to increase the feeling of insignificance of the individual voter.” — Erich Fromm, psychoanalyst and social philosopher, 1900-1980

SECRET PRISONS?

After the latest government ‘oopsy’ in admitting the truth (’we are not flying spy planes over Russia’, ‘there is no such thing as a stealth bomber’, ‘no such area 51 exists’), we believe the following ‘joke’ is appropriate:

George Bush goes to a primary school to talk to the kids to get a little PR. After his talk he offers question time. One little boy puts up his hand and George asks him his name.

“Stanley,” responds the little boy.

“And what is your question, Stanley?”

“I have 4 questions: First, why did the USA invade Iraq without the support of the UN? Second, why are you President when Al Gore got more votes? Third, what ever happened to Osama Bin Laden?” Fourth, why are we so worried about gay-marriage when 1/2 of all Americans don’t have health insurance?

Just then, the bell rings for recess. George Bush informs the kiddies that they will continue after recess.

When they resume George says, “OK, where were we? Oh, that’s right: question time. Who has a question?”

Another little boy puts up his hand. George points him out and asks him his name.

“Steve,” he responds.

“And what is your question, Steve?”

“Actually, I have 6 questions. First, why did the USA invade Iraq without the support of the UN? Second, why are you President when Al Gore got more votes? Third, whatever happened to Osama Bin Laden? Fourth, why are we so worried about gay marriage when 1/2 of all Americans don’t have health insurance? Fifth, why did the recess bell go off 20 minutes early? And sixth, what the hell happened to Stanley?”

—from Sam
