There was a great party in Morongo Valley’s Covington Park for the fire departments that fought the Sawtooth fire. The bands put together by Fred (the Bass Player) Houseman of Morongo Valley were Bone, Feisty Joe and “Ten Pentz” who volunteered their time. Also, other musicians sat in playing some awesome rock and roll. Sherry Carr of Z-107 did karoke during the band breaks. Kudos go to Jody Godden manager of the Circle K store here in Morongo. Jody put the whole event together. Starbucks provided free coffee, and Iced tea. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and other foods were donated by local businesses. Plus there was one of those giant blow up slides for the kids. About 400 people attended. The highlight of the day was a presentation of plaques for all of the fire departments. When the people attending gave the fireman a standing ovation and lined up to shake their hands, give hugs and say thanks there was not a dry eye in the house ( Including mine ). In these weird times you just don’t see something like this happen. It gives you faith in humanity. Billy Paul

Greetings Steve. I just wanted to drop a note and let you know, dealing with you and Water Canyon has been one of the painless and more enjoyable experiences that I’ve had in 27 yrs of playing live. You , the staff and the audience were great. I look forward to doing it again.

Thank you. BUGS SALCIDO

Wonder where he got it (the bumper sticker) I want one! I recently had someone ask if the bumper sticker on my truck was one I put there or I bought the truck with that sticker on it that reads: Tree Hugging Dirt Worshipper…I put it on my own bumper and it’ll stay there until somebody has the nerve to scrape it off….!

God came up to Adam and said, “O Adam, I have some good news and some bad news”. Adam asked, “Oh, what’s the good news”? God stated’ “There are two good things to report. I am going to give two of the most wonderful organs. The first one is a brain. With it you will have intellect, creativity, will, the power of thought and the freedom to decide your life”. Adam asked, “what is the second organ”? God stated, “O, I also am going to give you at the other end of your body a most wondrous organ that will give you pleasure, an organ that you will experience both love and times of great passion”.

Adam asked what the bad news was.

God replied, “you will only have enough blood supply for one of them to work at a time”.

BRIAN SETZER, THE DONNAS, James Brown, Dr. John at FOGG Fest in San Fransisco

Editors Note: Local vaudeville acrobatic wizards the Vau de Vire Society plan two days of high-flying awe-inspiring performance on and around Michael Christian’s giant “Hypha” art installation. Other recent additions include San Francisco girl-go rockers PERSEPHONE’s BEES, who join an already incredible lineup featuring JAMES BROWN, and BRIAN SETZER & THE NASHVILLAINS.

SAN FRANCISCO - BRIAN SETZER & THE NASHVILLAINS, the former Stray Cat’s salute to his hard-core rockabilly roots, make their West Coast debut Saturday, Aug. 19 as headliners of the first-ever FESTIVAL OF THE GOLDEN GATE at the beautiful Fort Mason Great Meadow.

Wrapped in a natural garden amphitheatre setting with spectacular Bay views, the two-day festival features two stages of local and legendary rock, soul and pop headliners with sensational regional cuisine, wines and brews from 11 AM to 6 PM each day. Tickets ($35-$49), including special two-day passes, and more information are available at www.foggfest.com and (415) 256-8499.

Also just added on Saturday are hometown “grrl-rock” champs THE DONNAS, their first local show in nearly two years since storming the country with their Ramones-meet-the-Runaways approach to fresh, punky pop-rock. Rounding out Saturday mainstage is Venezuelan disco kings LOS AMIGOS INVISIBLES, Bay Area funk hero LYRICS BORN, and San Francisco singer-songwriter SEAN HAYES.

Sunday’s main-stage lineup brings JAMES BROWN and his screaming 17-piece band to crown the inaugural festival, along with legendary New Orleans R&B pianist DR. JOHN, soul slinger LEELA JAMES, and gospel greats the BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA, Each day, the circus-performance mania of VAU DE VIRE SOCIETY will entertain during set breaks. All this will take place on the scenic Fort Mason Great Meadow, historic site of the much-loved San Francisco Blues Festival.

The festival’s “HILLSIDE STAGE” hosts a full flight of emerging local artists each day. Saturday’s lineup is anchored by local rocker SEAN HAYES, Seattle electronic drumming phenom K.J. SAWKA, local indie darlings PERSEPHONE’s BEES and the roots-driven rock of SHANTYTOWN. Sunday features Latin-funk heir-apparent SALVADOR SANTANA, Ubiquity Records soul hurler NINO MOSCHELLA, and blues-rockers THE JEFF JOLLY BAND. Closing out the stage on Sunday will be an exclusive tribal electronica all-star ensemble forged by Mutaytor bandleader MATTY NASH, and featuring luminaries such as Oingo Boingo bassist JOHN AVILA.

For the 4-star festival experience, a limited number of VIP tickets offer “up close” stage access, a commemorative limited edition poster, and an onsite private lounge.

The festival is co-presented by BMP Events and Sunset Promotions, longtime producers of the annual North Beach Jazz Festival.
