The Rimrock will survive!
Jim Austin, the well liked bass player and proprietor of the Rimrock Ranch, lost his main building (and some vintage music gear) last week. Jim is determined to rebuild and get goin’ again. He is starting some clean-up this weekend. We’d be up there too, except for a little job for the town of Yucca at the park. Makin’ a living takes so much valuable time. Actually, the park concerts are a pleasure to do, even if it is too hot to set up sound equipment. We got bluegrass this week! Good luck, Jim
Here’s a conversation between three middle-aged drummers, each with a hearing loss, which I overheard in front of the Water Canyon the other day:
The first one said, “Windy, isn’t it?”
“No,” the second replied, “it’s Thursday.”
The third drummer chimed in, “So am I. Let’s have a beer.”
Dat’s all for now, folks-
Work like you don’t need the money.
Love like you’ve never been hurt.
Dance like nobody’s watching.
Sing like nobody’s listening.
Stay in tune.
Da prez
PS: I just got a press release for a firemens benefit tonight at the football field. I think it’s 7PM free…with music. (see below at end of ‘gigs’ section)

Palm Springs is almost a swing-free zone these days, so I was surprised to hear about a band called Zoot Suit Revue, playing at the Spa Casino’s Cascade lounge this Saturday July 15, at 8:30 pm. I don’t know anything about this band, but one of the employees at the Cascades lounge said they play swing, so I’m going to check it out. You have to be 21 to get in to any of the casinos. There is no cover charge.
The Spa casino is on Indian Ave. in downtown Palm Springs at Amado. Just look for the bright lights and the tourists with the dazed expressions on their faces.

Thanks for giving a fire update in the newsletter. I first heard of the fire in the Pitown area tonight on the ABC evening news, and the details, of course, were rather sketchy.

Hi Steve,
I’m sorry to hear about the destruction in your area. I had the opportunity to play out there last March and thought it was very beautiful and the people were super-friendly. I was glad to hear historic Pioneertown came out of it all right, but it’s very, very sad about your band members. I will keep all of you in my prayers.
I’m sure this is far from your worries right now, but I remember in one of your gig reports reading about a CD project you guys are doing for artists to send their CDs to the Marineso overseas. My first CD, ‘Cadillac Daddy’ will be out in a few months, and I would like to donate some to the cause. Also, if you will be doing any fundraisers because of the fires, I would gladly donate some to that as well. I hope to get back to the area in October, but this would be a way of helping now.
Thanks for keeping me updated on everything going on in Yucca Valley!
Sincerely,
Melanie Sue Mausser

Greetings!!!
As most of you already know, the people of The Hi Desert have
been through a raging wild fire. From what I’ve heard,
Pioneertown suffered the most damage.
Having said that, Pioneertown doesn’t look as bad as you may think it does.
The Firefighters did an amazing job saving peoples homes. Almost every home
is surrounded by blackness, right up to the front doors!! I believe some homeowners
stayed behind and saved their own…Pioneertown Style.
There has been an unbelievable outpouring of love from everyone all
over the country and it has been greatly appreciated! For the people that lost their homes we would love to get some kind of fund raiser going soon. Pioneertown
needs some time to breathe and regroup. I am sure in the next few months
benefits will be coming up.
Pappy & Harriet’s got through the fire with literally zero damage. Being there during the fire,I assumed the whole town would be burned to the ground. It’s
a miracle that it didn’t. I won’t go into details. Enclosed is a photo
taken by the Desert Sun minutes before we were evacuated. I think it speaks for itself!! We are sorry for all that’s been lost and thankful for all that’s been saved.
Today is Sunday, July 16th. Pioneertown Road is open to the public.
Pappy & Harriet’s is open for business. Our beloved Thrift Store All Stars
will be taking the stage sometime in the late afternoon, early evening.!!!
We lost all of our food when the power went out, but we have a full bar, cold beer, hamburgers and hot dogs! True Pappy & Harriet’s style.
Thanks to everyone for having us in their thoughts & prayers. xoxoxoxoxo

I was telling my friend and engineer extraordinaire Mike Farrow about the folks up here with smoke damage to houses. It turns out his son has a mold abatement business in LA and has a very good non-destructive way to clean up soot and smoke.
Here is our webpage about the dry ice surface cleaning: http://ecostar-inc.com/dryice.htm
feel free to put the link in your newsletter. Click on the photo at the bottom of the page and you can see a short vid of soot removal. Really impressive. The CO2, in contact with a little moisture (contained in the wood) will briefly become carbonic acid, a natural biocide. CARBONIC ACID [carbonic acid] H 2 CO 3 , is a weak dibasic acid formed when carbon dioxide dissolves in water; it exists only in solution. When the water evaporates (quickly), the acid is gone.
For people who have a lot of soot on surfaces, this is the ideal way to get it clean.

Hello everyone,
I don’t normally send out political action messages, but I’m making an exception in this case after reading Greg Palast’s reporting on how the Republicans plan to continue stealing elections (as they have essentially done in the past two presidential races - no, not liberal hyperbole, just investigative reporting - see www.gregpalast.com). One of the things I’ve learned recently is that a group of Republicans in the Senate are trying to derail the renewal of the 1965 Voting Rights Act - a vital law that protects voting rights for minority citizens. They managed to hold it back for over a month in the House, and now it could be delayed even longer in the Senate. In just a few weeks, it could get bumped off the calandar all together. This is obscene.
Now, while the renewal of this act should not even be an issue, unfortunately, due to the electoral manipulations planned for the 2008 elections by the Republican Party, it is. The NAACP is sending 2,000 volunteers to Washington to push the Senate not to let the VRA expire. MoveOn.org has launched a petition (which I just signed) to support the effort. If you sign now, they’ll give your name and comments to NAACP volunteers to hand deliver to your Senators. That will make sure we’re heard, but also make it clear to every Senator that those NAACP volunteers are supported by thousands of Americans of all stripes from accross the country.
If you think that Americans should still be allowed to vote in our elections, you can sign here: http://www.political.moveon.org/votingrights
Thanks,
Steve

If you know anyone whom you think would like to receive this newsletter, please have them send me an email. Also, lately, some of the big inet providers are filtering out newsletters of this type (blind copied) assuming it is spam. If anyone you know received this publication before and doesn’t receive it now, it is probably for that reason. If you have that problem, you need to set the filtering to allow emails from www.new-moon-records.com through. If you don’t use filtering, just be sure that the address info@new-moon-records.com is in your address book. Finally, if you would prefer to not receive this newsletter, or have received it by mistake, send an email back saying ‘cancel newsletter’ in the heading. Your excuse may be written, if you like, no less than 100 words, in the body of the email.

Grand Canyon Caverns
July 19, 2006 by Bill Gould, Publisher.
Grand Canyon Caverns
Mile Marker 115 Route 66
Peach Springs, Arizona 86434
www.grandcanyoncaverns.com
One of my favorite things to do is travel. What’s even better is stumbling across unbelievable treasures. On my latest outing, a trek halfway across the country for Thanksgiving, I discovered the Grand Canyon Caverns. We were on our way home after just about being stranded in Flagstaff, when we decided to take Historic Route 66 for a little while. A large slightly chipped and fading sign stating the wonders of the Grand Canyon Caverns piqued our interest and we turned down the little old road to the caverns.
It was if it was meant to be, as we walked in they were just starting the last tour of the day. The caverns are open from 9am to 5pm in the summer and 10am to 5pm in the winter seven days a week, and are complete with a full restaurant (unfortunately we had already eaten). The fee for entry into the caverns is a very fair $12.95 (if you are a AAA member you get $1 off) and the gift shop items are all reasonable priced as well. You can also choose a flashlight tour for a couple dollars more and an explorative tour, which takes you off the trails and deep in the caverns, for just under $50 per person.
One rule in the GCC is no food or drinks. That is because it is one of the only 3% of all caverns that are dry. Meaning all the water that formed it 345 million years ago is now gone. Two hundred ten feet under the ground and at a very warm 56 degrees the caverns were amazing! I was surprised that we were going on a guided tour. Most other attractions are serve yourself. Our guide, Randy, was very informative and friendly. It was nice to get a feel for the history of the place as we were looking around. For instance, the name of the Caverns used to be Peach Springs Caverns (the nearest town) until it was discovered that the oxygen in the caverns filters in from the Grand Canyon through 63 miles of limestone rock! The sites were unbelievable and the history was amazing!
I can’t say enough good things about the Grand Canyon Caverns! I recommend that anytime you find yourself on I-40 in western Arizona, take a side trip and check out this natural wonder!!
